Welcome to Pubelo West snake removal! We are a non-profit reptile rescue serving the Pueblo West area of Colorado. We capture wayward snakes,

and release them on a piece of far away land that is complete with amenities for the snake to lead a full and happy life!

We do NOT harm any animals.
Tip: Stay away from the "snake away" product or anything promising "to discourage snake activity" (Yes, even moth balls)! Thet are a waste of money, and do not work. If the snake has heat, food, and water at your house, they ARE probably happy, and may need relocation!  That's where we come in.
BREAKING NEWS! 3/5/2026
After a very active year serving Pueblo West, and a horrid personal experience with 2/4 dogs suffering severe Rattlesnake bites, we have decided to make this (much needed and affordable)

service available for everyone!

In the Spring of 2026 it is time to help all the dogs in Pueblo West and Hopefully beyond soon!

Seth has 40+ years of dealing with any and all reptiles, has studied Herpetology for over four decades, and has experience with a large variety of different snakes. From a small Garter to a large (and cranky) Gaboon Viper, he HAS vast "hands on" experience.

(Seth  previously owned and operated the "New Mexico Reptile Rescue").

What does this service cost? A small relocation dontaion of $30.00

Donations ALL go toward travel/gas, snake housing, snake food, and snake rehabilitation (meds, semi-sterile environment space, etc.)  100% donations go towards the animals.

We also are always interested in any enclosures or reptile water bowl, hides, etc.

YOU MUST take the time to watch the animal (from a safe distance) I will (usually) try to text with ETA within a few moments!

YOU MUST maintain VISUAL CONTACT with the Snake!

So did you see a snake you want/need removed? Simply follow this guide:

1. Do not approach the animal, but PLEASE observe and HAVE EYES on the animal while when you TEXT. Please Send a picture along with your text!  If you take your eyes off of the animal the capture rate decreases SEVERELY, and we probably will NOT be able to locate the snake. This will save us BOTH a lot of time, frustration, and disappointment.

You will need to maintain eye contact (from a safe distance) of the snake. Although snakes generally do:

Not travel far on a daily basis,

typically staying within a familiar home range where they find food, water, and shelter.
They can move when seeking mates, hibernation sites, or for new territory, most snake species are not adapted for long-distance travel, and prefer to remain in established

areas where they are familiar with their surroundings. So you will probably see it again, this is when you should give me a call!

2. Secure your pets. If a pet happens to be bitten the first thing you should do is REMOVE the collar, and then prepare for an emergency vet visit. (Doesn't hurt call when your on the way, and confirm they have antivenom available.)

3. Shoot me a text with your exact address, I will confirm and let you know when I am on the way. (505) 320-1322 (Yes its a New Mexico area code, but I have been here for years).

4. Relax and keep watching the snake! I am on the way!

Here are some photos of commonly encountered snakes here in Pueblo West:

The Bull Snake "Pituophis catenifer sayi":

Uaually friendly and very shy. The may mimic a rattlesnake coiling up in a strike position and can even try to bluff you with tail rattling! If you gwet close enough you will hear them and huff and puff directly at you. They are great rodent control and generally good to have around as long as your comfortable with them. If you not or if it's being disruptive text me.

Often called "Red Racers":

This beautiful pink girl is also known as the Coachwhip (Masticophis flagellum testaceus). She was captured in a chicken coop in the morning. They are also excellent animal allies, but CAN interrupt your chickens egg laying cycles. If you have one being an “egg aying intimidator”, please give me a call or text

.

Next up we have one of THE cutest snakes alive! This is the Western Hog Nose snake (Heterodon nasicus). They are a rear fanged technically mildy venomous snake.

The species is not dangerous to humans, as no deaths or

systemic effects from the extremely rare bite from this rear-fanged snake have been recorded.

Although bites may (uncommonly) be medically significant, the species is not regarded as venomous. In the capture and incapacitation of prey the modified saliva is released from Duvernoy's Glands

and travels down a groove in the snake's fang.
These are (usually) very docile and well mannered. Often confused for Rattlesnakes, they have been rare for me to even come across.

The most infamous of all the Snakes in our area Crotalus viridis or the "Prarie Rattlesnake":

Generally, prairie rattlesnakes are usually lightly colored in hues of brown. Patches of dark brown are often distributed in a dorsal pattern. A color band may be seen at the back of the eye.

The prairie rattlesnake group carries the distinctive triangle-shaped head and pit sensory organs on either side of the head. A key characteristic that can help differentiate a prairie rattlesnake from other rattlesnakes is the presence of two internasals contacting the rostral
. If you have one, please SECURE your pets and text.

What if it's too late, and there is an active bite? Print this and head to the hospital while tring to keep the affected area elevated:

What if my pet has been bitten?
